The world is warming up again after Winter Storm Elliott. I hope that everyone survived, and is enjoying a peaceful holiday season. I look forward to a late-Christmas trip back to CO to see family in ten days - and, of course, to leaving for Alaska in only 22 more days. My dog-sledding outfitter says they've received some good snows, and things are looking bright for the big adventure...
Now, for a few more inspigraphs that I've churned out. I will be applying again for the Voices of the Wilderness/Artist-in-Residence programs at a few parks in the coming weeks, and will submit a few of my works. If there's any of these that seem extra-worthy to me, please let me know so I can include them!

Traipsing through the woods at Ridley Creek State Park on a chilly day, I noted the stillness and the bleakness.

We have a stump-log outside our front door, that I rescued on one of my kayak outings. After sitting there for months, it started growing fungi. That, plus the mushrooms growing from a log in Ridley Creek State Park, inspired this thought.

Wandering through Carlsbad Caverns in November, I thought about the mindset of people who venture into utter blackness to see what lies underground.
On a hike through the woods, this song came up on

my mp3 player. I immediately thought of this picture from the 80s, as I waited for a bus after attending a college roommate's wedding.
